Kai's main areas of focus in writing have been environmental advocacy, literature, and philosophy. At St. John's College, he wrote his Senior Essay on Tolstoy's War and Peace, for which he conducted extensive research. He is also knowledgeable in music, politics, international affairs, reads widely and avidly, and is willing to write on almost any topic.
Kai loves music and is a bass player, guitarist and singer. He has played both upright and electric bass since he was eleven, and guitar since age fourteen. He has published recordings of his music online, performed live at school events and at independent venues. He also enjoys reading, writing stories, and journaling in his free time.
Kai is an accomplished jazz bass player, folk guitar player, and singer with paid gig experience. He has a been a part of several youth symphony orchestras in the San Francisco Bay Area as a string bassist. He also has taught music informally to middle schoolers while working as an academic tutor.
Kai has several published articles on the Sierra Club's website. He has experience getting in touch with sources, doing research, adding photos to pieces, and finding the right pacing, organization, and structure for an article.
