Jennifer's area of focus is creative nonfiction. However, she writes poetry, short fiction, and web content, as well.
Jennifer loves to write about social justice issues, food (tacos are life!), art, music, dance, architecture and interior decorating, her kids, books, poetry, and badass women with all their struggles and achievements.
Jennifer has five years of experience copywriting and editing for a web developer, for whom she served as Office Manager. She worked mostly on SEO and blog posts for auto dealers, driving traffic to their company-sponsored sites.
Jennifer is currently Assistant Editor and co-founder of a woman-owned and woman-run small press, specializing in poetry. The company was founded in 2019. To date, they have published four full-length anthologies and three chapbooks, as well as the stellar work that they publish as part of special events, on their website.
Jennifer is a long-time member of her local arts community. She has filled several roles over the years for the local community theater, including choreographer, producer, volunteer coordinator, director, fundraiser, and board member.
Jennifer also wrote web content for various non-profit sites.
Jennifer has two biological kids, three stepkids, and one grown foster child. She also has four grandbabies and three nephews she loves and helped raise. She home-schooled three of the aforementioned kids. She has a lot to say about the ins and outs of raising children and education. She even loves to write about the painful parts of parenting.
Jennifer loves to write about women, equality, women's health, motherhood, and relationships. She feels strongly that honest writing about difficult issues can save the world.
Jennifer has years of experience working in medical settings, including laboratory, hemodialysis, and elder care. Jennifer also is disabled by a chronic illness. She is very attuned to the problems with our medical care and insurance systems and the way that social justice issues impact health and medical care.
Jennifer is a stellar home cook and a lifetime foodie. She specializes in traditional Southern fare, Creole dishes, Mexican and Southeast Asian. She knows the processes behind both home cooking and restaurant food. She knows that food is love!
