Marissa began writing and editing for newspapers in college, and served as editor-in-chief of her community college newspaper and copy chief at her university newspaper. Before she had graduated in 2013, Marissa was offered a job at the local newspaper, where she did copy editing, layout, reporting, and wrote feature stories for its seasonally published magazine. She also uploaded stories and photos to the website and crafted posts for social media.

After the newspaper was sold, Marissa moved on to develop marketing content for the ecommerce department at a greenhouse before being promoted to Computer Systems Analyst & Operations Coordinator. She was responsible for creating a style guide for the greenhouse's 900-plus products, which included product titles, descriptions, and bullet points. The content was created specifically with SEO requirements in mind. She oversaw the completion of the project and edited all content once it was completed, then uploaded all content to the vendor sites.

At both jobs mentioned, Marissa helped develop and publish social media content. Before she attended college and was working at a sign shop in high school, she helped the owner create a social media presence.

Personally, Marissa has authored many blogs and also did some light freelance editing work for friends and family. She now works at a library and wants to supplement her work there with writing and editing opportunities.
