Tommy graduated from Juniata College with a customized degree in Writing for Media
Tommy has worked as both an educator and with a third-party software company supporting school districts. His familiarity as a teacher was helpful when working for the software company; among other responsibilities, Tommy created user manuals, how-to guides and reference materials used by thousands of teachers and administrators.
Tommy spent a handful of years working in the IT industry. While his primary responsibilities included troubleshooting, repairing and planning technological issues, he was also the primary communicator for his company. He handled press releases, user instructions manuals, how-to guides and project documentation. He also wrote and compiled regular reports and summaries, which involved distilling industry jargon and complex ideas into concise summaries which could be quickly read and digested by decision-makers without IT expertise.
Tommy covered prep sports for The Washington Post, including high school basketball and rowing. In addition to game stories and previews, he also selected athletes for the yearly All-Met sports team, conducted on-site interviews as well as managed and produced the agate section in the daily print publication. In college, Tommy covered nearly all sports and edited the sports section for The Juniatian. In between, Tommy edited and wrote about articles for Bleacher Report.
