Sara believes that the language that we use fundamentally impacts our perceptions of the “reality” it describes. She thinks critically about the narrative frames within which we connect and impact human thoughts, beliefs, attitudes, feelings, and behaviors. Sara is most passionate about questioning preconceived notions of “who we are” and “why we are” and she writes with an awareness of the unavoidable limitations that labels and definitions confer unto the objects they describe. This is why she strives to use specific and descriptive language in all of her work.

Her professional and academic experiences consist of learning and practice in the health sciences and psychological sciences. She has a Bachelors of Science in Health Sciences with a focus in nutrition and exercise physiology, and a masters degree in psychology with a research focus. She is committed to pursuing research and practice that may lessen the structural and rhetorical issues that she feels are endemic to the mental health system and our cultural (mis)understandings of mental health/illness, respectively.

Her vocational experiences consist of a smattering of teaching, research, and counseling roles where she has both supported and learnt from a diversity of individuals and their human experiences. Because Sara believes in constantly questioning our perceptions of each other, ourselves, and, our epistemological worldviews, she uses writing as a tool to organize and communicate her ideas. She is constantly humbled by the complex synergy and uncertainty of human and material nature, and she strives to explore it as long as she can.
