Susan B. holds a Ph.D. in history from the University of Iowa, and her areas of interest in my major field include United States political, social, cultural, and urban history. Her Ph.D. minor field is Medieval Europe, with focuses on comparative religious history and Jewish-Christian-Muslim interactions.

Over the years, she has written numerous articles for encyclopedias and reference works that include the Dictionary of American History, the Historical Encyclopedia of American Labor, and Work in America: An Encyclopedia of History, Policy, and Society, as well as EBESCO Industries' Guide to Industries and Careers. Most recently, she has been writing social science and educational content on a freelance basis, including a set of North Carolina state standards history lessons for Social Studies School Service, and is currently working on a new Issues and Controversies in World History question for Facts on File.
