Summary of Product Experience
Article
Since May 2008, Wojciech has been working on a daily basis (5 days a week) translating scientific articles for the general public, published by the Community Research and Development Information Service (CORDIS) – the gateway to European research and development. The subject matters vary from technology to physics, to biology, IT and many more. This type of work requires very good Internet search skills, as the descriptions can require quite advanced knowledge of the given subject and - needless to say - one translator cannot be an expert in all of them.
Product Description
Since 2001, Wojciech has regularly worked for such brands as American Power Conversion, Bobcat, GEA Farm Technologies, Mothercare, Severin, Toys R Us or Yamaha, translating product descriptions, user manuals, marketing texts, technical specifications and other documents related to product offered by these brands. Texts are often addressed to the general public (users), so they are not very technical, however, clarity, precision and simplicity require from a translator care and attention to every detail. Another typical problem with such texts is a relatively high risk of producing loan translations instead of employing customary phrases (e.g. for such sentences as "Keep away from children"). Fortunately, Wojciech has managed to work out his own technique for avoiding such pitfalls.
