WriterAccess Goes Public in its Pursuit to Raise Capital

“Most companies don’t go public in their pursuit of raising capital for growth. Yet the process is one of the most interesting and critical elements to the business growth and success” notes Byron White, founder and Chief Idea Officer of ideaLaunch, Inc. DBA WriterAccess.

WriterAccess, on the other hand, is choosing to go public by revealing details of its quest to secure capital by growing the business organically—the content marketing way!

The company raised a round of seed capital in December 2011, with three investors funding a Proof of Concept segment for the already growing and prospering WriterAccess business model.

The small investment made a big difference for the company, helping accelerate growth 170% in the course of the year, expanding the customer base to 3,400 and writer base to 6,000+ professionals—all screened, tested, expert writers.

Byron focused all team members on the WriterAccess model throughout the year. Other projects and solutions were put on hold.  “Focus is something that most investors want to see from an entrepreneur, and investment” notes Byron, “And that’s exactly what we delivered in 2012.”

The pursuit to raise additional capital did not begin until the end of the year. WriterAccess was screened and selected from thousands of businesses to present at two investment conferences: the New England Venture Summit and Piranha Pond.

“NEVS was a real eye opener for me personally” notes Byron.  “More than 50 companies gathered from around the U.S. along with 500 attendees.  The competition included advanced business models generating many millions in revenue.”  Byron actually modified the WriterAccess presentation on the fly to better tell the story after learning from a few great presentations.

The following week, Byron presented at Piranha Pond, run by 128 Innovation Capital Group that modeled the event after Shark Tank, a reality TV show that creates a competitive environment for entrepreneurs looking for investors.  Byron delivered a much more refined, powerful pitch at this show, and 3 out of the 4 judges voted thumbs up with interest for a one-on-one meeting.
