About Stephanie Mann

As a Boston-based content strategist, Mann helps entrepreneurs use exceptional content to attract qualified clients and build credibility.

She holds a bachelor’s in English from Vanderbilt University and a master’s in writing from Emerson College, which awarded her a scholarship to attend as a Presidential Fellow.

Mann started as a newspaper reporter and worked as an editor for four Boston-area book publishers.

An accomplished writer, she published hundreds of technology articles online as a web reporter. She has edited nearly a dozen books, and has written several features for national print magazines.

In her time as a web reporter, Mann watched writers struggle to create content that appealed more to Google bots than it did to actual people. Content became stiff, awkward and, sometimes, downright incoherent.

This keyword-centric approach not only damaged writers’ credibility, it also failed to generate a loyal following. In time, Mann began to notice that entrepreneurs were falling into the same trap and decided to take action.

She became a content strategist focused on helping entrepreneurs avoid writing pitfalls and create business content that really grows an organization.

Today, Mann works with entrepreneurs and business owners across the nation, helping them strategize the best content for their individual target audiences.

The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Business Writing teaches entrepreneurs how to create content that attracts leads and wins customers.

The book looks at the fundamentals of good business writing, explores some of the major pitfalls entrepreneurs and business owners often encounter when trying to reach qualified customers with written campaigns, and provides key strategies in avoiding these pitfalls.

In This Episode

Mann provides strategies for nearly every aspect of business writing, including tips on identifying pain points, targeting qualified clients, and knowing when to ditch formal writing for a more casual tone.

She provides useful insight into many topics facing entrepreneur-writers and freelance writers, such as:

  • Why entrepreneurs and business owners would need special help with content
  • Why interviewing the entrepreneur client is one of the most important (and fun!) jobs of a freelance writer
  • Creating clean, professional content every time
  • Optimizing the proofing process
  • Developing a natural, effective voice that appeals to clients

Quotes from this Episode

“One of the things that I love about entrepreneurs is that they are experts in their field, whatever they do”

“I often tell people to print out what they write and that’s the best way to proof it in my personal experience and I also see the best results come from people who I work with when they print it out.”
