As any SEO expert or educated content writer can tell you, the headline is one of the most important components of your blog posts and articles.
Headlines (or titles, as they are also called), are the bait that lures in readers and search engines.
Yet, it’s often the part that some freelance content writers and content managers give the least thought to. Too often, headlines are dull, non-descriptive–or worse–overused. Just check out this repetitive page of headlines about carving a pumpkin.
The problem is that if everyone else is writing articles about how to carve a pumpkin, your article isn’t going to get noticed. Remember that we aren’t talking about keywords here. You can still use the “how to carve a pumpkin” keyword in your article if you must (although the competition will be stiff). But your headline should be different and interesting enough to get people to read your article instead of someone else’s.
Enter WriterAccess’s Topic Finder tool. This tool is located on the writer’s dashboard on the far left, under “Content Tools.” On the client side, Topic Finder is located on the left sidebar, under “My Tools,” and then under “Research.”
If you enter the word “pumpkin” into the Topic Finder, you’ll get a long list of headline ideas that are far more interesting than “How to Carve a Pumpkin.” You’ll also see, in the two right-hand columns, the Cost Per Click and the Search Volume for each headline. You can sort by either category.
This is one of the most valuable tools on WriterAccess (apart from the content marketing writer, of course!), and one that should be used every time you are wondering what to title your article or blog post.
